Association Leadership Sought Outside Review of Nominations Process to Increase Qualified Candidate Recruitment

Situation

Individual membership association wanted to have nomination procedures and documents reviewed with goals of streamlining process and increasing recruitment pool of qualified candidates.

Background

  • Association leadership identified the fact that an increased number of qualified candidates for board and other leadership positions was needed

  • Unbiased review of administrative procedures for nominations and elections was needed

Actions

  • Following initial discussion with CSE, received copies of all documents and related policies/procedures for last election cycle

  • Reviewed all documents, developed flowchart for nomination and election process

  • Compared all timelines for submission of documentation with bylaws to verify compliance

  • Conducted comparison of internal procedural time frames identifying points of conflict and possible confusion

  • Prepared summary report with proposed modifications

  • Conducted debriefing with leadership to explain proposed changes

Outcome

Chair of nominations committee implemented appropriate modifications for upcoming election cycle and assessed result
